Faculty Awarded Time to Work on Projects

Three Huntley College of Agriculture faculty were awarded release time under the Provost’s Teacher-Scholar Support Program to work on projects.

Agribusiness & Food Industry Management Professor Jon Phillips and Human Nutrition & Food Science Assistant Professors Olive Li and Gabriel Davidov-Pardo applied for and received the release time through the program.

Phillips is working with a group of students on a strategic analysis of the California strawberry industry, focusing on strawberry production. Separately, he is analyzing the factors that influence student success, including ethnicity, high school GPA, standardized test scores, academic departments, residency, and military veteran status.

Li wants to provide training and supervision to graduate and undergraduate students in your research group. One of the graduate students is expected to finish a master’s thesis with a manuscript for publication. In addition, four students are expected to earn their bachelor’s degrees with research training and experience presenting their findings at several conferences. Li also wants to develop lecture materials and lab procedures for her classes.

Davidov-Pardo plans to use the time to conduct research, including writing proposals for internal and external funding, training and supervising students in safety and lab techniques, and creating grant reports and manuscripts. He also hopes to advise students in submitting new

The program is designed to give faculty time away from the classroom to do research or other projects. Faculty write a proposal on how they plan to spend that time. A committee at the college level reviews submitted proposals and makes recommendations to the university provost, who decides which ones to approve.
