Food Science Society President Shirin Mal Ganji poses with her award certificate
A Huntley College of Agriculture club and its president were honored at the Bronco Student Leadership Award event as this year’s best on campus.
The Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers (OSLCC) named the Food Science Society as the 2017-18 Organization of the Year.
“Food Science Society has had many events and activities to help foster a positive and educational experience for its members. Some of these activities include peer mentoring of each new Food Science student during orientation this past summer of 2017,” OSLCC said in a statement. “New students may become overwhelmed with the transition into college and FSS seeks to be a steady and reliable support for all incoming students in preparation for a successful transition into the various tracks offered by the major and human nutrition and food science department.”
Established in 2003, The Food Science Society is a student organization to promote and inform students in all food science-related areas of available resources. It is a student chapter at the Institute of Food Technologist Student Association (IFTSA), which give students professional development through networking opportunities, training, competitions, scholarship, and awards.
Shirin Mal Ganji, a graduate student in human nutrition, served as the Food Science Society’s 2017-18 president. At the award ceremony, Mal Ganji was named the 2017-18 president of the year.
