Cal Poly Pomona-bred Horses Excel at National Competition

Three Arabian horses that were born and bred at Cal Poly Pomona won titles last month at a national competition.

CP Dauntless, CP Rumor Has It, CP Tenacious competed in the Arabian Horse Association’s Youth National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show, which was held in Oklahoma City, Okla., from July 23 to 30.

CP Dauntless won titles in several categories:

Champion Arabian English Trail Junior To Ride (JTR) 18 & Under
Reserve Champion Arabian Western horsemanship JTR 14-18
Top Ten Arabian Western Trail JTR 14-18
Top Ten Arabian Hunter Seat Equitation Not to Jump 14-18
Top Ten Showmanship Junior To Handle 14-18.

Dauntless is owned by Laurie Long of Bay Area Equestrian Center. His sire was Baske Afire and his dam was CP Princess. It was his second year in a row to win national titles in youth trail classes.

CP Rumor Has It won titles in the following categories:

Champion Arabian English Show Hack Junior Owner to Ride (JOTR) 18 & Under
Reserve Champion Arabian English Show Hack JTR 14-18
Top 10 Arabian English Country Pleasure JOTR 14-18.

Highland Pride Arabians owns CP Rumor Has It. The horse’s sire is CP Sequoia and his dam CP Jasmine. This is the fourth consecutive year he has won titles at youth nationals, a remarkable record.

CP Tenacious won in the Top Ten Arabian Country English Pleasure JTR Select. He is owned by Karen Mahan. His sire was Buckingham Bey V; his dam was IMA Dancer Too. Last fall, CP Tenacious finished in the Top Ten at U.S. Nationals in the Country English Pleasure Adult Amateur Owner to Ride 55 & over category.

All three horses represent seven generations of Kellogg breeding, tracing in their female line to horses W.K. Kellogg purchased in the 1920s and 1930s. Horses that can perform at this level with youth riders are wonderful examples of the kind and willing disposition for which Kellogg Arabians are renowned.
