Poinsettia Plants Sell Out

Poinsettia plants in the greenhouse

The first holiday poinsettia plant sale in 13 years was a success.

Thanks to both loyal and new customers, the Plant Sciences Nursery sold out of the plants before Christmas.

“It was a great opportunity for our students to get experience growing a floral crop like this,” says Monica Salembier, the nursery’s manager.

The plants were grown and sold in the greenhouses near the Farm Store. It was the first time that the greenhouses were opened to the public.

The nursery plans to sell poinsettia plants again next holiday season, with more varieties, colors and sizes, Salembier says.

In the meantime, the nursery will grow and sell hydrangeas for Mother’s Day, which will give students additional experience, she says.
