Students Harvest, Deliver Grapes to Winemaker

Students at South Coast Winery

College of Agriculture students harvested and delivered two-and-a-half tons of grapes from campus vineyards to South Coast Winery on Sept. 8.

The grapes are expected to yield about 130 cases of wine, which could be on sale as early as next spring.

The college has created Horsehill Vineyards in partnership with the Collins College of Hospitality Management and South Coast Winery. Each partner contributes expertise toward making wine, with the College of Agriculture growing grapes on three vineyards on campus. The grapes were cultivated from cuttings from the historic De Ambrogio Ranch in Rancho Cucamonga.

Horsehill Vineyards has created three different wines: the 2011 Kellogg Cuvée, the 2012 Rossana Sparking Wine, and the 2013 Horsehill Pink, South Coast. The wines were sold in the Farm Store and the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch.
