What Can Your IAP Ambassador Do for You?

IAP

Jessica Saucedo and Gabriel Smith

With the semester conversion around the corner, the Individual Academic Plan (IAP) Ambassadors are here to help students stay on track with their academic planning.

Jessica Saucedo, a psychology major, and Gabriel Smith, a political science major and army veteran, have been appointed as the new IAP ambassadors for the C.L.A.S.S. Advising Center.

As the new ambassadors, Saucedo and Smith will address any concerns students have about the semester conversion and can assist with filling out the IAP.

“I chose to apply for the position because I love to help others,” says Saucedo. “I was already helping my peers with their graduation plans, so I took the opportunity to help students on a larger level. “

The IAP, which can be accessed through the MyPlanner tool on BroncoDirect, is a course plan that helps students stay on track towards graduation. Once students complete their IAP, it can be submitted and reviewed by an advisor.

“As a veteran student and transfer student, I want to assist incoming students and make sure they know how to go through the process,” says Smith.

Both ambassadors are no strangers to leadership positions. Saucedo is the newly appointed secretary for C.L.A.S.S. Council, while Smith was recently elected as the new ASI vice president.

“I witness first-hand how nervous students have become because they're afraid they won't graduate before the conversion,” says Saucedo. “My new role allows me to reassure students that it is possible to graduate before then.”

Saucedo and Smith believe the IAP is a valuable tool that their peers should utilize to effectively map out their academic journey to graduation.

“Students have been messaging me on social media and through email to schedule appointments,” says Smith. “I’m glad that it’s quickly becoming something students recognize as a resource.”

Saucedo and Smith will hold their office hours at the C.L.A.S.S. advising center located in building 5, room 228.

Saucedo will be available Monday’s and Wednesday’s from 11:45am – 1:45pm, and Tuesday’s from 12:00pm – 2:00pm. Smith will be available Tuesday’s from 8:00am – 12:00pm, Thursday’s from 9:00am – 6:00pm, and Friday’s from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.

The semester conversion is set to take place in fall 2018. For more information on the conversion, please visit the Semester Conversion web page.
