Postdoctoral Research and Teaching Fellow in Astronomy

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona invites applications for a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow to begin in Fall 2016. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or a closely related discipline by August 2016. This position is for 3 years, pending satisfactory performance. The successful candidate will work with Assistant Prof. Matthew Povich on a broad array of topics related to H II regions, the calibration of IR and radio star formation rate tracers, and the Milky Way Project online citizen science platform.

The astrophysics faculty lead a vigorous research group with strong undergraduate student involvement and a record of success in obtaining funding from NSF and other sources. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop an independent research program, taking advantage of opportunities for collaboration and access to observing facilities through the department’s connections to the University of Arizona, Caltech, UCLA, and the University of Wyoming. This position includes a lecturer appointment in Physics and Astronomy for one 10-week quarter course per year. The successful candidate will develop their teaching portfolio with the guidance and support of department faculty, who are dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning.
