Photo Contest - Complete Rules
The Capture Your Campus: 75th Anniversary Photo Contest is open to all photographers, including Cal Poly Pomona students, faculty, staff and alumni. Individuals are limited to three entries per category. The competition is sponsored by the Office of Public Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona.
Complete and submit the online registration form at www.cpp.edu/~75th/. Contestants must supply all details required by the registration form and comply with all rules to be eligible to participate in the competition.
All entries must be received by November 18, 2013, at 8 a.m. (Pacific Time). Any entries received after this time will not be considered. The Office of Public Affairs does not accept responsibility for late or lost entries. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
October 1 – Competition Opens
November 18 – Submissions due at 8 a.m. (Pacific Time)
Winter Quarter 2014 – Top photographs are exhibited in the Bronco Student Center
Winter Quarter 2014 – The public votes for a winner in each of the three categories on Cal Poly Pomona’s Facebook page. Winners receive a $50 gift card.
There are three categories: This is Cal Poly Pomona (general submissions representing the essence of the university), Campus Beauty, and Campus Life. Individuals may submit up to three original photographs per category. All photos must be submitted electronically; hard-copy entries will not be accepted. Photos must be accompanied by a title and caption.
All photos must be taken on campus at Cal Poly Pomona from October 1 to November 18, 2013.
When photographing people, photographers must ensure the subjects have consented to their picture being taken.
Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints – so long as they are submitted electronically. Collages will not be accepted.
Submissions may be watermarked, but the watermark should be inconspicuous enough to not interfere with the judging of the photo. A watermarked photo might not be honored by the competition (at the judges sole discretion) if the photographer is unable or unavailable to provide a pristine, watermark-free version of the image when asked.
Violence, profanity, and/or attacks on individuals or organizations may not be depicted in the design in any form, in imagery or language. Entries must not contain material that promotes intolerance, racism, hatred or harm against any group, individual or organization or promote discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
The Office of Public Affairs reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify and delete any entry it deems to be offensive, inappropriate, derogatory and libelous, or not in keeping with the competition theme or that is otherwise not in compliance with the official contest rules.
The Photo Contest committee will choose the top five photographs for each of the three categories (total of 15 photographs) to be exhibited at the Bronco Student Center. Photos will be judged by two criteria: reflection of the theme and technical excellence.
After the exhibit opens, Facebook fans and BSC visitors can vote on their favorite photograph in each of the categories. The voting will take place on Facebook. In the event of a tie, the competition committee will determine a winner using the judging criteria.
Any attempt by a contestant to influence the result or subvert the competition may lead to immediate disqualification. The Office of Public Affairs reserves the right to not select a winner or winners if entries received are judged to be of insufficient quality. If a winning entrant/s is/are unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, the design competition reserves the right to offer the prize to the contestant with the next best entry.
Potential winners will be notified by e-mail and/or telephone around December 2 and may be requested to complete documents required by the competition.
The top 15 photographs (five in each category) will be displayed in an exhibit in the Bronco Student Center during Winter Quarter 2014. The winner of each category, as voted on by Cal Poly Pomona’s Facebook fans, will receive a Bronco Bucks gift card for $50. A total of three gift cards of $50 will be awarded.
You will retain all rights to any photograph you submit -- including ownership if applicable. By entering the competition, you grant Cal Poly Pomona a royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to:
- Use the photograph on the Internet in support of our mission.
- Use the photograph in Cal Poly Pomona publications, both print and online.
- Display the photograph in exhibits.
- Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that your photos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.
