Dr. Anne B. Simpson has been on the faculty of the Department of English and Foreign Languages at Cal Poly Pomona since 1989.  Her academic specializations are modern British literature and critical theory, and she also teaches courses in women writers, modern fiction, and race and gender in literary texts.  Dr. Simpson advises literature students in the Master’s program in English and has directed both M.A. thesis projects and comprehensive examinations.  In the past, she served as faculty advisor for the Rho Xi Chapter of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honors Society, faculty advisor for the undergraduate journal Portfolio, and advisor for the student English Club.

Dr. Simpson has two doctoral degrees: a Ph.D. in English from the City University of New York Graduate Center and a Ph.D. in Psychoanalysis from the New Center for Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles.  Her most recent book, Territories of the Psyche: The Fiction of Jean Rhys, explores the novels of an early twentieth-century British writer from the perspective of influential psychoanalytic theories.
