Admission Impaction

Academic Program Impaction

The California State University (CSU) designates majors as impacted when more applications are received in the initial filing period from CSU eligible applicants than can be accommodated by the campus.

All freshmen and transfer applicants for these impacted academic majors must meet supplemental eligibility criteria defined by Cal Poly Pomona in addition to all CSU eligibility requirements.

The CSU announces during the fall filing period (October 1 - November  30) those majors that are impacted and the supplementary criteria campuses will use for the coming year. That announcement is published in the CSU Review, which is distributed to high school and community college counselors. Information about the supplementary criteria is also sent to impacted major applicants.

Cal Poly Pomona's impacted majors for 2014/15 admissions cycle are Aerospace Engineering, Animal Health Science, Animal Science, Architecture, Biology, Biotechnology, Communications, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Biology, Kinesiology (Exercise Science Option only), Mechanical Engineering, Music (Industry Studies Option only) Psychology, Sociology and Undeclared.

All applicants who apply to an impacted majors at Cal Poly Pomona are encouraged to identify an alternate major on their admission application.

For additional information on major impaction go to Impaction for Freshmen and Impaction for Transfers.

Campus Impaction

For majors that are not impacted, admission is impacted at the campus level for all freshmen and transfer applicants.  Campus impaction differs from majors impaction in that supplemental criteria utilizing a higher eligibility index is applied to first-time freshman applicants from non-local (tier 2) schools only.  Applicants who are from local schools are required to meet the CSU eligibility requirements only.  For more information on the specific tiers go to Impaction for Freshmen and Impaction for Transfers.

Impaction for Future Quarters

Impaction information for the 2014/15 academic year will be updated prior to the opening of the initial admission filing period (October 1 - November 30, 2014).
