Governmental & External Affairs

Welcome to the Office of Governmental and External Affairs at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Office of Governmental and External Affairs oversees all communication and outreach between local, state, and federal offices and the Cal Poly Pomona community. The mission of Governmental Affairs is to work with elected officials and government agencies to advocate for the university on behalf of our students, faculty and staff.

At the November 2013 meeting of the CSU Board of Trustees, a budget proposal was adopted requesting a budget increase of $237 million. When Gov. Brown released his 2014-15 budget in January of this year, it provided for a smaller increase of $142 million. Subsequently, the CSU has been working with the State Legislature to close that gap of $95 million, in order to increase the number of students able to be enrolled for the 2014-15 academic year, to provide additional student support programs to increase graduation rates, and to address long-deferred maintenance issues.

Seventy-six members of the California Legislature, Democrats and Republicans, Senators and Assembly Members, have joined forces to urge their leadership and the Governor to provide the additional $95 million originally requested by the CSU. We thank these 76 leaders for their continued support of what the CSU does for California. Please take the opportunity to express your appreciation to these Members when you have the chance.
