Hi! My name is Ario! I'm originally from Guangzhou, China, but I have been living in the United States for five years now. I speak English, Cantonese, Mandarin, and a little Japanese (for watching anime). Cal Poly Pomona has been a very supportive environment for me with many teachers who went the extra mile to make me feel welcomed on campus, and I'd like to share some of that sympathy with other new and international students which is why I decided to become a Peer Advisor. Right now, I'm a senior who is studying to be a Clinical Dietitian and also working in the HNFS department as a student assistant. I strongly believe that people can achieve the healthier, happier lifestyle they've always wanted with some help and I want to be a part of that process.

Hi! My name is Talia Marroquin, and I am an Agricultural Science major with an emphasis in Plant Science. My experience at Cal Poly Pomona has been the best by far, where I have met amazing peers and faculty. I am captivated by agriculture, as well as enjoy being outdoors, active, and trying new things. Cal Poly Pomona has allowed me to pursue this by further encouraging my learning environment with hands on experience- “Learn by Doing”. I have had the opportunity to work with livestock, distinct crops, and farm equipment. These experiences have been some of the best and I cannot wait to add more to the collection! My career plans are extensive, but desire to run and own my farm at the end of the day. I had previously been an Agricultural Ambassador, and now serve as a Peer Advisor. I await to assist incoming and transfer students with planning their academic courses/career, and in encouraging them in their new journey.

Hello! My name is Ani and I’m a Dietetics student at Cal Poly Pomona. I’ve lived in Los Angeles my entire life and I absolutely love it, although I do love to travel to new places when I have the time. After attending Pasadena City College for five years, I finally discovered my passion for health and food; I couldn’t be happier here at Cal Poly studying with people that have similar interests as I do. I plan to become a Registered Dietician and work in a hospital setting or have my own private practice. Being apart of Peer Advisors helps me use my caring and outgoing personality to help new students at Cal Poly Pomona better adapt to the school and discover different resources the campus has to offer.  When I’m not at school or work, you’ll find me hiking in the local mountains, at the beach, or trying new recipes in the kitchen.

Hello! I’m Alyssa and I am an Animal Science major with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I have had the dream of being a veterinarian since I was in pre-school. As I got older, I considered other careers; however, I feel called to dedicate my life towards helping animals. It is very important to me to live my life helping not only animals, but other people too. I have experience volunteering at a hospital, church, and a retirement home. Volunteering and spreading love to others is important to me which is why I wanted to become a peer advisor. I adore being a student here at Cal Poly Pomona. I have experienced so many opportunities here like learning how to ride horses, being introduced to a dairy which I now intern at, and I always acquire new knowledge here that will help me in my field. My goal in life is to provide as much love and guidance as I can to others while having many adventures that allow me to grow and become better each day. It is an honor for me to represent California State Polytechnic University, Pomona because this school reflects the values that I find most important. This will be a great year! I am eager to assist my fellow students on this exciting journey.

Brianne MarrBrianne Marr

Major: Plant Science, Ornamental Horticulture

Year in School: Senior

Email: blmarr@cpp.edu

Well, hi! My name is Brianne, I am a 4th year plant science student, and I grew up in the small town of Farmington, California. I have always enjoyed flower bouquets, so in high school I considered becoming a florist. Instead, I decided to go to college and learn how to grow the flowers that we send to our loved ones.     I currently help grow gerbera daisies in Cal Poly’s on-campus greenhouses, am president of the Los Robles Horticulture Club, and actively lead clubs outside of my major. When I graduate, my hope is to return for graduate school as a botanist, or to enter directly into the cut flower industry. Whether it’s going out for coffee, staying in and watching a movie, or talking between activities, I enjoy spending time with friends and meeting new people. I absolutely love the College of Agriculture; everything from the opportunities the college has provided to how my peers and professors have guided me during my time here. My hope as a Peer Advisor is to provide the same encouragement and knowledge that has been given to me: that we are wanted here, and the journey through college does not have to be a lonely one. Be brave and feel free to ask questions and for help whenever it is needed.

Hey there! I'm from Walnut, California attending Cal Poly Pomona as a Junior! I am currently a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and if I am not running around the Agriculture building, you can find me working at the Bronco Bookstore. Aside from school, I enjoy hiking and traveling, relaxing at the beach, discovering new food and scenery places, and listening to music. I also volunteer at a hospital as a nurse assistant; therefore, this leads to my aspiration and goals in life. My goal in life is to always help as much people as I can, whether it's smiling or talking, a little effort goes a long way. Therefore, the opportunity of becoming a peer advisor captured my attention. I feel the need of wanting to help students who are having trouble with the path they are at or just a feeling of wanting a friend to talk to. With this, I will also be able to have an insight of different perspective besides my own.

Irene NgoIrene Ngo

Major: Animal Science, Pre-Vet

Year in School: Senior

I’m Irene and I am a transfer student who came from Cypress College and just finished my first year at Cal Poly Pomona. I am a 4th year majoring in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Science. My experience at Cal Poly Pomona is great so far as I became a member of the Kellogg Honors College and got to meet so many new people. When I am not in class, I am usually working with Sarah Calderon in the AVS Department, volunteering at a small animal clinic nearby, or checking out different clubs and their events. Upon graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, I plan to apply for veterinary school and obtain my DVM. My favorite Cal Poly experiences are Midnight Madness and Welcome Week because Welcome Week was a great way to transition to both living on campus and learning how to navigate the campus, aside from meeting new people. Midnight Madness was also a great event because it is a great de-stressor before finals week. I look forward to helping new incoming students as they transition to a new school!
