Joe Guerra Class of 1985
College of Business Administration
While a student at Cal Poly Pomona, Joe Guerra’s studies left him little free time to hit a few golf balls. These days, the man Golf Magazine proclaims as one of the most powerful people in golf does more than swing a club. He oversees one of the top ten golf companies in the world as founder, president and CEO of Georgia-based Sequoia Golf Holdings, which owns a portfolio of country clubs that includes 50 properties.
After earning his business degree, Guerra worked in the real estate industry before being named co-president and chief executive officer of Santa Monica-based American Golf Corp. His next move was to Georgia, where he founded Sequoia in 2003.
Along the way, Guerra has made time for his alma mater and philanthropic pursuits. He sits on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the College of Business Administration. In 2011, in an effort to build awareness for the game of golf and its values to youth, Guerra announced the launch of the Sequoia Charitable Foundation
He and his wife, Amy, have four children: Kim, Lauren, Joey, and Hayley, and one granddaughter, Charlotte.
