Margie Ferree Jones
Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award
Margie Ferree Jones, an associate professor in The Collins College of Hospitality Management, is being honored this year as the University’s Outstanding Teacher.
Jones arrived at The Collins College in 1990 and has become one of the most respected wine educators in the country. She is a certified sommelier (CS) and certified wine educator (CWE) and has been a wine judge at several international wine competitions. She also has been involved with numerous wine-related organizations, including the Society of Wine Educators (SWE) and Los Angeles International Wine Competition. In addition to beverage courses, Jones teaches in the areas of leadership and event management.
Jones earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Indiana University and a master’s degree in hotel administration from Cornell University. She holds a doctorate from Claremont Graduate University’s School of Educational Studies. Prior to joining the Collins faculty, she worked with Hyatt Hotels, VMS Realty, and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts..
During her tenure, Jones has been named the school’s Advisor of the Year four times and Teacher of the Year twice.
Jones, of South Pasadena, is married to Hank Jones and they have two sons, Sam and Will.
