About APSA

Welcome to the American Planning Student Association, the student club for the Urban and Regional Planning Department at Cal Poly Pomona.

APSA is designed to foster communication, stimulate interest in urban affairs, and further educational development within the student body at Cal Poly Pomona. The members of APSA gain personal and professional contacts through their interaction with other members of the organization, the faculty, and with other planning professionals throughout the surrounding communities. Membership in APSA is open to all students officially enrolled at Cal Poly Pomona with an interest in urban planning. APSA is affiliated with other urban planning students from UCLA, USC, and CSU Northridge to promote networking and learning from other schools.

This club offers students the chance to network, build skills, and gain exposure to the profession of Urban Planning.

APSA activities include:

  • Professional Development Series - seminars presented to URP students by practicing professionals from the field of Urban Planning.
  • Networking opportunities - students and professionals have the chance to socialize and network at mixer events held at local venues.
  • Connections to APA Events - APSA keeps you up-to-date and connected to National, State, and local (Los Angeles) APA chapter events.
  • Annual APSA Awards Banquet - awards are presented to outstanding URP students and faculty. This unique awards ceremony allows students to choose their favorite faculty, and for faculty to honor exceptional students.
  • Annual Student Photo Competition - URP students submit their own photography that portray shared Urban Planning visions and ideals. Winning photographs are displayed in the URP Lounge.
  • Annual APSA T-shirt Design Contest - URP students submit a design for the annual club t-shirt. Winning t-shirts get purchased.
