Joseph Hannibal, Professor
M.F.A. Painting (FA)

Professor Joseph Hannibal was born in New York City and lives with his wife
and two young children in Huntington Beach, California. He is both a painter and photographer and directs the painting and photography programs in the Art Department at Cal Poly University, Pomona. He has also taught at Central St. Martins College of Art & Design in London, England; Exeter College of Art &
Design, Exeter, England; University of Wisconsin-Stout, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and the Italian Ministry of Culture-Erasmus Fresco Project, Tuscania, Italy.

Joe has been a guest lecturer in Italy, Denmark, England and throughout the USA. His paintings & photographs have been exhibited worldwide including the Stoberihallen Museum, Copenhagen, the Gjethuset Museum, Denmark, and SpaceX Gallery, England. He holds an MFA in Painting from the University of Tennessee. He was awarded a Gold Medal in Painting from the Academia Italia delle Arti, Parma, Italy.

For more than three decades he has been elected yearly to “Who’s Who in American Art”, Who’s Who in the World”, “Who’s Who in American Education”, “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers”, “Who’s Who in the West” and the Biographical Encyclopedia of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers of the US”. Joseph has just completed a photography book entitled, “Venice Defocused: An Artist’s Dreamvision” which will be published in 2009. He hopes to begin work on “Venice Defocused Part II” next summer and he has two other photography books in progress, “Grounds: the Art of Looking Down” and “Flames”. He also continues to create and exhibit large mixed media works that combine photography, drawing, computer media and painting. He travels yearly to Venice and remains enthralled by the beauty that is “La Serenissima”.
