Persian Visions: Contemporary Photography from Iran

Date: October 11 - December 3, 2011

Persian Visions catalogue published by International Arts & Artists' Design Studio.

Persian Visions: Contemporary Photography from Iran features 58 works by 20 of Iran's most celebrated photographers. With an emphasis on the individual directions and concerns of the participating artists, this exhibition offers a view of contemporary Iran as filtered through the lense of artistic expression and individual sensibilities. Characterized by superb artistry, the works in Persian Visions form a rich selection of photographs and video installations that express the participating artists' personal perspectives on varied aspects of contemporary life. Interests and issues of both a public and private nature are addressed, resulting in a compelling exhibition that touches upon the many themes that impact us all: family, history, place, mortality, language, memory,…

Persian Visions was developed by Hamid Severi for the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art in Iran and Gary Hallman of the Regis Center for Art at the University of Minnesota and toured by International Arts & Artists in Washington, D.C. This exhibition is supported in part by grants from the ILEX Foundation; the University of Minnesota McKnight Arts and Humanities Endowment; and the Department of Art and Regis Center for Art at the University of Minnesota.
