Five New Faces Join CBA
Some long-awaited reinforcements to the CBA staff have arrived in the form of five new faces excited to help day-to-day operations run smoothly. Our Student Success Center was able to double its advising staff with the hires of Dario Rios and Jacquelyn Trejo, two individuals truly passionate about helping students. CBA communications efforts received a boost with Maria Barnett added as the dean’s receptionist and Chris Neprasch taking over the college’s magazine and social media reins. Finally, our TOM/EBZ departments have benefited from the energy and insight brought with the addition of Xiomara Tapia as its administrative support coordinator.
If you run into any of our new staff members on campus, please make a point to say hello and welcome them to the team.
Maria Barnett is the first face seen or voice heard when contacting the dean’s office since becoming the receptionist in June. Often representing the purple and gold of the Lakers or Dodger Blue, Maria previously worked at Damien High School's advancement office and assisted with marketing where one of her duties was producing the school’s newsletter. When she's not at a professional stadium, Maria is usually at smaller venues like local parks watching her twin 12-year-old sons play baseball with her Golden Retriever Zoey glued to her side.
Chris Neprasch is regularly seen wandering the CBA complex with a camera in one hand and cell phone in the other. As public affairs officer, it's Chris' duty to present the CBA and its students, staff and faculty in the most positive light possible. If he's not at work, you'll find the Cal Poly Pomona communications department alumnus either playing fetch on the beach with his rescue mutt Sandy or at Southern California skate parks clinging to his last few glimpses of youth.
Darios Rios is one of two new advisors to join the Student Success Center staff. Dario received his bachelor’s in social science from Cal State LA and has already tackled innovative initiatives like providing students the option to participate in online advising. In his off time, the father of two has been known to rock out to Interpol while sampling Southern California’s hidden food gems and craft breweries.
Xiomara Tapia has joined the TOM/EBZ department as an administrative support coordinator. Preferring Xio (See-Oh) for short, the Cal State Fullerton alumna holds a bachelor’s in public relations and is working toward her master’s in public administration at University of La Verne. Prior to joining the Cal Poly Pomona staff, Xio was a public relations practitioner for a shoe company that donates hundreds of pairs of shoes to needy children at the beginning of each school year.
Jacquelyn Trejo knew the Cal Poly Pomona campus well before joining the CBA’s Student Success Center as an advisor. The alumna spent her undergraduate studies in the communications department where she earned her bachelor’s with an emphasis in organizational communication. She continued her education at University of La Verne where Jacquelyn complete an M.S. in leadership and management. Jacquelyn’s sharp eye and great sense of style have already shined through in her graphic design work for the Student Success Center as well as already earning a reputation for having the “cutest” office in Building 164. Prior to joining the CBA, Jacquelyn spent time as an early start coordinator in the academic programs office. Her future plans include obtaining a Ph.D. and teaching courses at the university level.
