College Advisors

For GEMS Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors, your College Advisor is the first person to contact for:

  • Creating an academic plan for graduation
  • Recommendations on courses and class schedules
  • Clearing Advising holds ("At Risk/Low" GPA and "Probation")
  • Discussing strategies to improve your GPA
  • Submitting petitions, appeals and academic planners
  • General questions about the College, University or transfer credits

Visit the CEIS Advising Center for details about office hours, upcoming Workshops, and how to connect with your advisor.

GEMS Seniors should contact your faculty advisor (see section below).

Faculty Advisors

Faculty Advisors serve to provide career advice to students who may be wondering "what to do" with their GEMS degree. They are also a great resource for advice about graduate school or about possible jobs. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor to help you make the best educational decisions for your career path. Find your faculty advisors below:

ADVISING NOTICES

  • Double majors: Starting Fall 2013, students may not pursue one additional major and/or a maximum of two minors if all declared programs may be completed within 36 units above the units required for the primary major. Students must submit a plan demonstrating that they can meet this restriction with their change of major form or minor course approval form. The plan must be verified and signed by the department chair and associate dean associated with the major or minor.
  • Unit Caps: Starting Fall 2012, students are capped at 13 units during regular registration periods. Students are only allowed to add more units during the Add/Drop period. Seniors within 20 units are the only exception to this rule.
  • Seniors: In order to graduate, majors must enroll in Senior Internship OR Senior Thesis. These are both a two-quarter sequence only offered in Fall and Winter. Students must enroll in both quarters.
