CET Mission

To educate a diverse student population in the current knowledge and professional practices in applied construction engineering technology by blending a strong practical approach with a high caliber academic program. To produce qualified students who are prepared to be a part of the construction team and productive in industry upon graduation. To sustain and continually improve the program consistent with the needs of the industry, and within the standards of the California State University system.

CET Program Objectives

The PEOs for the Cal Poly Pomona Construction Engineering Technology program are as follows:

  1. Graduates are successfully employed in the construction industry or related field;
  2. Graduates effectively lead, work, and communicate in cross multidiscipline teams;
  3. Graduates are aware of professional, ethical, and social responsibilities within the construction industry;
  4. Graduates appreciate and develop a perspective of the multicultural world;
  5. Graduates expand their knowledge through continuing education, professional registrations or other lifelong learning activities.

CET Student Outcomes

The faculty at the Construction Engineering Technology Program adopted the eleven student outcomes that encompass all of the ABET TAC Criterion 3, 1 through 11, and the program special outcomes for construction technology program, lead by the American Society of Civil Engineers. Upon graduation, students are expected to acquire the following knowledge and skills:

  1. an ability to identify, analyze, and solve construction engineering technology problems
  2. an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering and technology
  3. an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern technical tools necessary for construction engineering technology practice
  4. an ability to conduct, analyze and interpret experiments and apply experimental results to improve productivity in the construction industry
  5. an ability to function effectively on teams and a respect for diversity
  6. an ability to apply creativity in the design of systems, components as related to construction applications
  7. an ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  8. a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  9. an ability to understand professional, ethical and social responsibilities; personal continuous improvement
  10. knowledge of contemporary construction engineering technology professional, societal and global issues
  11. a commitment to quality, timeliness, and continuous improvement
