Bio:

Wendy Knudsen Pylko received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts from The Evergreen State College and holds a Master’s degree in Music, Vocal Arts from The University of Southern California. She studied voice with Herta Glaz, Nina Hinson and Judith Natalucci. Other training included The Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music School and the Minnesota Opera Institute. Ms. Pylko also studied Scandinavian music, with special emphasis in the song repertoire of Edvard Grieg at The University of Oslo in Norway.  Operatic roles have included Dorabella in Cosi fan Tutte, The Witch in Hansel and Gretel, Magda in The Consul, Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, and Tisbe in La Ceneretola. She is an active advocate and performer of Art Song recitals. Recordings have included voice overs for the Steven Spielberg animated series Animaniacs,as well as a soloist on the soundtrack of The Last Daysan Academy Award winning documentary directed by Steven Spielberg with music by Hans Zimmer. Musical theatre roles have included Fiona in Brigadoon, and the Stepmother in Into the Woods.

Wendy has taught private singing lessons for 30 years, in her private studio , as well as at Cerritos College and Idyllwild Arts Academy . She was a teaching artist for Los Angeles Opera, and engaged in outreach programs for Orange County Opera, Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts,and Southland Opera. She has students performing on professional stages in opera and musical theater throughout the country. Her students have won various vocal competitions, including those sponsored by NATS ( she is a board member of NATS-LA), and the Spotlight Awards of the Los Angeles Music Center.  At Cal Poly Pomona she works with private studio vocal students, as well as teaching the course “Introduction to Music.”
