Geography and Anthropology Department Open Position

Faculty Position Announcement: Part-Time/Temporary Lecturers

College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences

The Department of Geography and Anthropology at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites lecturers to become members of our part-time temporary lecturer pool. We have a dynamic faculty in both disciplines and offer a variety of introductory and advanced undergraduate courses. Specializations in CRM, GIS, Asia, Latin America, environmental geography, and biological anthropology are especially welcomed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in anthropology or geography from an accredited university.
  • University teaching experience.
  • Field and/or professional experience.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Ph.D. preferred.

Appointments

Part-time, temporary lecturer appointments are usually made for one academic semester (approximately 16 weeks) at fractions usually ranging from 3/15 to 12/15 of full-time; multiple appointments are possible. Incumbents may be reappointed to subsequent semesters contingent upon funding and favorable performance evaluations. A background check (including criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of the current CSU employees who apply for the position.

Placement into a range is based on qualifications and experience. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated in the schedules above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.

  • three recent (dated within the past two years and at least one written within 12 months of the application) letters of reference;
  • an official transcript ("Issued to Student" is not considered an official transcript) from an accredited educational institution showing highest degree earned.

Mandatory Vaccinations

The CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be fully immunized against COVID-19 or have received a medical or religious exemption. Selected candidates should be prepared to comply with this requirement.
