Jim Burke served as the Dean of The Collins College of Hospitality Management at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona from August of 1998 to June of 2004. Prior to accepting this position, Dr. Burke was Director of the Tourism Destination Management Program and the Accelerated Masters of Tourism Administration at George Washington University and the Director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto.
He has also served as a media researcher/time buyer for Leo Burnett Advertising, where he worked on hospitality accounts and as a consultant to states, provinces, corporations, universities and industry associations. His co-authored text, Marketing and Selling the Travel Product, is in its second edition. Dr. Burke has also received lifetime achievement awards from the Society of Travel and Tourism Educators (1997) and the International Travel and Tourism Research Association (2010). Dr. Burke's community service in Claremont, Ca., includes being chair of the Planning Commission and serving as a member of the Board of Overseers of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden.
