1. When is the application deadline?

To be announced for the Summer 2024 REU Program.  

2. Is there a minimum GPA requirement?

Yes, applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 GPA in the scale of 4.0.

3. What is the minimum required coursework to participate in the Program?

Students must have completed the Differential Equations and College Level Physics Courses. Community College students must have background in Calculus and Physics. Knowledge of computer programming is a plus.

4. Can I apply if I am a senior graduating before August 2024?

No. NSF regulations require that participants have at least one semester of undergraduate study remaining after completing the summer program.

5. Is US Citizenship or Permanent Residency Required?

Yes, NSF requires participants to be U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents.

6. When will I find out if I have been selected for this program?

Selected students will be notified by March 25 of the year in which a Summer REU Program is offered. Students not selected for the Program will be notified by April 15 of the year in which a Summer REU Program is offered.

7. If I am selected, how many hours/week do I have to be at Cal Poly Pomona?

Selected students are required to live on campus housing for the entire 10-week period. Work days are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm with one hour lunch break (40 hours/week). 

8. What a typical week is like for students?

Typically, students will do literature review, meet with the  researh advisor, attend research seminar, conduct research, design experiments (instrumentation, system integration, simulation, flight testing), collect and analyze data, etc. There will be 2-3 field trips to research labs and/or aerospace industry and some outreach activities during the 10-week period.  

9. If I am selected, am I allowed to take summer classes?

No. Selected students will not be allowed to enroll in summer classes.
