Use of Unmaned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) and Drones
In an effort to support research and other activities in support of the academic mission at Cal Poly Pomona, EH&S in cooperation with Risk Management has developed a UAV Taskforce comprised of both Faculty and Staff throughout campus with the goal to develop a set of guidelines that will allow for the safe use of UAV's in alignment with Federal guidelines and University Policies.
Updated information will be provided here as it becomes available.
Use of UAS/UAV (Drones)
All UAV activities must first obtain a Certificate of Authorization (COA) from the FAA that permits public agencies and organizations to operate a particular aircraft, for a particular purpose, in a particular area http://www.faa.gov/uas/public_operations/.
Until such time as authorization is obtained, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV’s) or Drones, by Cal Poly Pomona faculty, staff, university volunteers and/or students in the performance of University or Academic related programs or activities is strictly prohibited.
At this time, all hobby or recreational use of a UAV is prohibited on campus. All other applications must have an approved FAA Certificate of Authorization, or exemption and be approved by the UAV Activities Review Board.
