The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2018. We are particularly interested in applicants with specialties in control and robotics.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and the potential to establish a research program that involves both undergraduate and graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include both introductory and advanced courses, as well as assisting in curriculum development. The applicant will be expected to advise students; serve on department, college and university committees; and engage in professional activities. Applicants whose work supports the university's Learn by Doing philosophy and demonstrates a commitment to both the highest standards of professional ethics and to diversity in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Completion of a PhD in electrical or computer engineering or a related area from an accredited university by June 30, 2018
- Expertise in the area of control and robotics within electrical or computer engineering
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching
- Be able to teach a broad range of courses in electrical and computer engineering
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Evidence of commitment to work with diverse students and community populations. Evidence of a commitment to the educational equity goals of the university and its increasing ethnic diversity and international character
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, particularly in laboratory or project courses
- Professional engineering work experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop teaching laboratory facilities and curriculum
- Demonstrated ability to develop and conduct an applied research program
- Experience with contracts and grants for applied research projects, preferably as a PI or co-PI
- Demonstrated ability to establish industrial collaborations
A completed application will consist of:
- A cover letter that describes the candidate’s teaching and research experience and preparation to meet the duties and qualifications articulated in the position description;
- A curriculum vitae comprised of at least those elements specified on the application form and including the names, titles, addresses, and telephone numbers of five individuals (at least three) who can speak to the candidate’s potential for success in this position;
- A statement of teaching philosophy;
- A Student Success Statement about your teaching or other experiences, successes, and challenges in working with a diverse student population (approximately one page, single-spaced);
- A list of courses the candidate is prepared to teach, courses they can teach with some additional preparation, and courses they would like to develop;
- A copy of transcripts showing the highest degree earned or in progress;

- Finalists for the position will be required to provide three recent letters of reference (PDF format by email preferred) and an official transcript showing the highest degree earned.

About the Department
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Computer Engineering. The graduate and undergraduate curricula include a large number of laboratories where students experience the practical application of concepts learned in the classroom. Additionally, a senior design project including both design and implementation is required of all undergraduates.
