Teaching & Learning Resources
Good course design is THE single most important action you can take to improve your students' learning experience. There is a wealth of information available about course design, so rather than re-invent the wheel here, we have included a few carefully selected resources that have been very useful for us.
High impact practices (HIPs) are teaching and learning practices which have been widely tested and have been shown to be beneficial for college students from many backgrounds. These practices take many different forms, depending on learner characteristics and on institutional priorities and contexts. Our HIP page focuses on active learning and student engagement, writing in the classroom, and collaborative assignments and projects.
This section also includes information on general teaching practices and classroom management.
Hybrid and online courses (H/OL courses) add diversity to the learning experiences offered to students. In hybrid courses, some number of face-to-face class meetings are replaced by carefully selected and designed online learning activities. In online courses, most if not all of the content and activities occur online. Carefully crafted H/OL courses can provide excellent learning experiences while adding flexibility to schedules for both students and faculty.
