Golden Key International Honour Society

Annual Services

Mission: To mobilize people from every sector of American life to build the character and competence of our nation's youth by fulfilling five promises for young people:

  1. Ongoing relationships with caring adults in their lives - parents, mentors, tutors, or coaches
  2. Safe places with structured activities during non-school hours
  3. Healthy start and future
  4. Marketable skills through effective education
  5. Opportunities to give back through community service

Make A Difference Day is the most encompassing national day of helping others -- a celebration of neighbors helping neighbors. Everyone can participate. Created by USA WEEKEND Magazine, Make A Difference Day is an annual event that takes place on the fourth Saturday of every October.

Every Halloween, Cal Poly Pomona's Golden Key members go out to trick-or-can (as opposed to trick-or-treat) to collect canned food to be donated. A neighborhood near Cal Poly is selected, and the week before Halloween, members go out and distribute flyers to notify homes that we will be around collecting cans the following week. On Halloween night, members dress up in their costumes and go out to collect the cans.

Guardian Angel

Each year, when the holidays roll around, Cal Poly Pomona's Golden Key chapter gets busy with their Guardian Angel service project. New toys and clothing are collected and donated to children of less fortunate families. Boxes are placed throughout campus, and students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to donate to such a worthy cause.
