Dr. Mary Yu Danico
The 2014 recipient of the George Hart Award is Dr. Mary Yu Danico from the Department of Psychology and Sociology. Dr. Danico joined Cal Poly Pomona in 1998. She served as Vice Chair of her department since 2007 and, for 2 years (2012-2014), served as President of the Association for Asian American Studies, a national organization advancing the highest professional standards of excellence in teaching and research in the field of Asian American Studies. Her leadership of that organization focused on strengthening ties with programs in Korea and Japan. Dr. Danico has served on numerous university-wide boards and committees devoted to enhancing multicultural understanding including serving as Interim Director of the Weglyn Endowed Chair in 2008-2009. She is widely recognized as an expert in Asian American identity and community and she influences students, colleagues and community members with her passion for social justice and community engagement.
