Meet The Clinicians


John Tsai, M.D., Clinical Lead
Dr. Tsai started at Cal Poly Pomona in 2009. He received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA in 1989. He completed his internship and residency at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana from 1989-1992 and is board certified in Family Practice since 1992. Prior to Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Tsai worked in the Claremont Colleges Student Health Center for 9 years

Steven DeStefano, M.D.
Dr. DeStefano started at Cal Poly Pomona in 1997. He received his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY in 1981. He completed his internship and residency at UCLA from 1981-1984 and is board certified in Family Practice since 1984. Prior to Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. DeStefano was in private practice in Alta Loma for 9 years.

Monica Tantraphol, M.D.
Dr. Tantraphol joined Student Health Services in fall 2011. She holds an undergraduate degree from UCLA (1996), and completed her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2003. She completed her internship and residency in Family Practice at Kaiser Woodland Hills (2003-2006) as well as a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at Kaiser Los Angeles (2008-2009). Prior to coming to Cal Poly Pomona, she worked for Kaiser Pasadena in Primary Care and Sports Medicine where she remains on their registry. Her interests include travel, food and sports—a winning combination!

Timothy Moody, M.D.
Dr. Moody attended the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his residency in Milwaukee, WI. He then spent 25 years in Eastern Washington State where he worked in various positions including private practice, public health officer, medical director of a rural health clinic, and was assistant director of the student health service at Washington State University. Dr. Moody is Board Certified in Preventive Medicine and Public Health, holds a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, and is Certified in Travel Medicine. When not working, Dr. Moody can frequently be found riding his bike up to Mt. Baldy or hiking in the San Bernardino mountains. He has climbed Mt. Adams, Mt Hood, and Mt Rainier several times. He hopes to get to the top of Mt. Shasta and Mt. Whitney at some point.

Physician Assistant

Eden Tefera, P.A.-C
Eden was employed at LAC/USC Medical Center in the emergency department and prior to that was with Clinica Medica Communidad. She obtained her Bachelors and PA certificate from Charles Drew University. She joined Student Health Services in March 2012.

Laura Field, P.A.-C
Laura joined Cal Poly Pomona’s Student Health Services in September 2012.  She holds an undergraduate degree (1996) and Physician Assistant Certificate (1999) from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY.  She completed her Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska’s Medical Center in 2007. On completion of PA school, she practiced for four years in family medicine in upstate New York before heading over to England where she worked for the National Health Services for several years.  She is excited to be back and practicing ‘stateside’!

Family Practice Nurse Practitioner

Judy Moore, R.N.P.
Judy has worked with Cal Poly Pomona Student Health Services since 1988. She received her Pediatric Nurse Practitioner diploma in 1973 at Harbor UCLA Medical School and her Family Practice Nurse Practitioner diploma in 1977 at USC Medical School. She has a special interest in skin conditions and diseases of the skin.
