Program Description
The American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) The ASF's award program for study and research abroad has been the Foundation's most long-standing commitment to educational exchange. During the past 100 years, over 4,000 fellowships and grants have been given to Americans and Scandinavians engaged in study or research projects. In 2010, 80 students, professionals and artists were provided over $850,000 in total funding.
The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan.
GlobaLinks GlobaLinks provides numerous scholarships to students applying for a semester or year abroad through the GlobaLinks program.
Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.
Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellows Program Designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs; up to twelve students are hired to work at the Endowment (D.C.) on a full-time basis for a period of one year (early December deadline).
CIEE Each year CIEE awards scholarships and grants to students who plan to study overseas. Please read the eligibility criteria and the application procedures for each scholarship carefully.
The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program A program of the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program offers intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical foreign languages for summer 2013. The selection process is administered by American Councils for International Education with awards approved by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
DAAD Help students, researchers and faculty in the USA and Canada on their journey to study or research in Germany. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is a publicly-funded independent organization of higher education institutions in Germany.
Boren Awards for International Study

Boren Scholarships offer unique opportunities for U.S. undergraduates to study abroad.

Boren Fellowships enable U.S. graduate students to add an important international and language component to their graduate education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency.

English Language Fellow Program The English Language (EL) Fellow Program promotes English language learning around the world and fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries. It places talented, highly qualified U.S. educators with Master’s degrees with a focus in TEFL/TESL or Applied Linguistics in all regions of the world.
Freeman-ASIA Freeman Awards for Study in Asia (Freeman-ASIA) provides scholarships for U.S. undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Fulbright Scholar Program

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to “increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.”

With this goal as a starting point, the Fulbright Program has provided almost 300,000 participants—chosen for their academic merit and leadership potential — with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns.

Hi Travel Grant The Los Angeles Council of Hostelling International USA presents an annual Travel Grant in the amount of $1,000 to an individual who is just beginning his or her travel experiences in life. It is the goal of the Los Angeles Council to encourage and promote the pursuit of world exploration and experiential learning (i.e. learning from direct life experiences) through this grant.
Luce Scholarships Fund eighteen one-year internships in Asia; Asian Studies majors may not apply (early November deadline)
National Security Education Program Scholarships (NSEP) These scholarships are intended to provide support to U.S. undergraduates who will pursue the study of languages and cultures currently under represented in study abroad. Applicants must provide a clear link between the proposed overseas study and their academic and career goals.
SIT Study Abroad SIT Study Abroad awarded $750,000 in scholarships in 2009. About one-third of scholarship applicants receive financial assistance to participate in our programs. Only SIT Study Abroad participants can be considered for SIT Study Abroad scholarships. Awards generally range from $500 to $5,000 for semester programs, and $300 to $3,000 for summer programs. Financial need is a primary consideration for all of our scholarship decisions.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO), Cultural Division Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) is accepting applications for two scholarships. The Taiwan Scholarship Program is designated to encourage students to pursue their degree studies in Taiwan. The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship Program is to encourage students to undertake Mandarin Chinese language study in Taiwan.
TaLK Program The TaLK Program is supported by funds 300 TaLK Scholars each semester to teach conversational English in rural Korean elementary schools. The program provides a 1-month orientation for the TaLK Scholars in addition to round-trip airfare, a settling-in allowance, a monthly living stipend of approximately $1,300, health insurance and organized trips to historical locations in Korea.
