John Moore is Emeritus Professor of History, California State Polytechnic University, where he taught for over four decades. For a third of a century he was faculty adviser for the university’s National Model UN program, and for many years he served as Director of the Virginia and Douglass Adair Symposia, for which he organized conferences and academic meetings and edited proceedings. Among some fourteen published books, he is co-editor, with Jerry Pubantz, of the Encyclopedia of the United Nations.
At Cal Poly Pomona, Moore received the Distinguished Teacher Award, the Outstanding International Scholar Award, an Outstanding Advisor Award, and the George P. Hart Leadership Award. His other honors include a Lifetime Achievement Award from the United Nations Association, and—with co-author Jerry Pubantz—an “Outstanding Academic Title for the Year 2000” commendation from Choice Magazine for the book To Create a New World? American Presidents and the United Nations.
In 1999 Moore was Senior Fulbright Lecturer/Scholar, University of Tampere, Finland. And in 2004 he served a second Fulbright assignment as László Országh Distinguished Chair of History, Hungary.
Since retiring from the classroom, Moore has continued his research
and writing, and attends and participates in academic conferences.
Over the years, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors of several civic organizations, including the National Collegiate Conference Association, the San Gabriel Valley Services Center for Independent Living, the Inland Empire Consortium on International Studies, the World Affairs Council of Inland Southern California, the Foothill Philharmonic Committee, and the United Nations Association, Pomona Valley.
He resides with his wife Linda—retired from administering her own CPA firm—in Claremont, CA, and frequently lodges in New York City, where the couple maintains a modest apartment.
