Angiosperm Phylogeny: Requirements

There is no textbook. Students will read a number of papers from the primary literature. The ones pertaining to lecture are linked. Students will find others as part of the term project.

Each week, there will be a quiz, administered on Blackboard. It will be available for six days, beginning at midnight on Friday and ending at 11:59 p.m. on the following Wednesday. Because of the length of time that each quiz is available, there will be no make-up quizzes. Each quiz may have a different point total, but each will count as 10% of the total grade for quizzes. The quiz total will be assigned a letter grade, based on the following scale: 91%–100%: A; 90%–90.999%: A-; 89%–89.999%: B+; 81%–88.999%: B; 80%–80.999%: B-; 79%–79.999%: C+; and so on.

Term project

The term project is due, submitted through Blackboard, no later than 11:59 p.m. on the day of the scheduled final examination, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016. Submissions on the following day will receive a 20% penalty. No submissions will be accepted after Dec. 9. The term project substitutes for the final exam; there will be no class meeting at the scheduled final exam period. The term project will be assigned a letter grade.

The grade points for the letter grades for the quiz total and the term project will be averaged together, and converted back to a letter grade using the same grade point scale. Thus, the quizzes and term project each constitute half of the grade.

There is no extra credit.
