Dendromecon harfordii Kell.


Dendromecon harfordii plant This species, usually called the Island Tree Poppy, is found on Santa Rosa, Santa Cruz, and Santa Catalina Islands off the coast of southern California.

Technical description

TREE or shrub 2-6 m tall. LEAVES elliptic, ovate, or oblong, 3-8 cm long, 1.5-4.5 cm wide, tips rounded, margins entire. FLOWERS: petals 2-3 cm long. FRUITS 7-10 cm long. SEEDS 2.5-3 cm long. Brushy slopes; < 600 m. Channel Islands. Var. rhamnoides (E. Greene) Munz (RARE) with pale green lvs occurs on Santa Catalina I. and was once present on San Clemente I.
