The mission of the Instructional & Information Technology (I&IT) Division is to provide stewardship, leadership, and service in support of the teaching and learning mission of the university. I&IT Operations provides central technology support for the design, development, security, and maintenance of campus-wide computing and communications infrastructure. Services include: email, web services, intranet services, voice-services, directory services, account management for technology access, database management, as well as various server hosting environments. Supported technologies within the Network and Telecommunications include infrastructure components from: Aruba Networks, Avaya, Cisco, and Juniper.
Reporting to the Associate CIO for Operations, the Director of Network and Telecommunications will provide management, oversight, and support to the department’s technical staff, wired/wireless network infrastructure and telecommunication systems. The incumbent supervises, develops and mentors the Networking and Telecommunication Analyst professionals and ensures that staff is responsive to end user needs. The incumbent institutes well defined communication and operational processes for staff that support effective and efficient day-to-day operations and escalation response as the situation warrants. The incumbent coordinates and provides project management oversight for network and telecommunications projects. The incumbent develops and manages the department’s projects, tasks, schedules, and resources in accordance with IT leadership’s established goals, budgets, and timelines. The incumbent develops long range plans and works with IT leadership to integrate plans with IT’s overall strategy. The incumbent ensures accurate and timely completion of related projects and tracks projects through completion while keeping I&IT leadership and campus customers apprised of project status. The incumbent works with staff to recommend, implement, and maintain infrastructure and configurations to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness. The incumbent facilitates and provides leadership in the development of operational procedures, documentation and processes in support of campus networking and telecommunications services. The incumbent performs on-going performance analysis and capacity planning for associated services. The incumbent works with staff members and outside vendors to develop and maintain a maintenance methodology for networking and telecommunications supported equipment including patches, upgrades, additional manufacturer functionality, and third-party applications. The incumbent oversees and conducts appropriate periodic maintenance, diagnoses and correct problems, maintains records, and carries out specified change control processes and responds to escalated support needs. The incumbent will ensure network, systems, and telecommunication security in accordance with established policies and procedures; recommend and develop improvements; and perform other duties as assigned.
B.S. in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field required or a B.A. with equivalent training and work experience will be considered AND seven(7) or more years in network administration and/or telecommunication experience in an enterprise or university environment with increasing responsibilities and duties; two(2) or more years with management and leadership experience; and two(2) or more years experience with structured wiring installations for voice and data communications. The candidate must have successful experience in leading technical staff, technical functions, preferably system administration experience leading technical staff. Demonstrated project management experience with success in managing medium to large technology projects and demonstrated ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical management and professional staff. The candidate must have high knowledge of modern networking theory and operations as well as systems analysis and troubleshooting. Knowledge of Cisco and Aruba Networks equipment, network management technology, IOS, desktop and system administration. Skilled at high level of project leadership and the ability to quickly resolve complex systems problems. The candidate must have knowledge of core networking technologies such as TCP/IP stacks/ports and their functionality, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewall configuration and operation, and network monitoring technologies. Knowledge of PBX and VOIP telecommunications, voicemail systems, structured cabling standards for networking infrastructure. Knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems and working knowledge of web application security with an understanding of vulnerabilities and countermeasures. The candidate must have the ability to concentrate for extended periods, ability to sit for extended periods of time in front of a computer in an office environment and knowledge of campus accessibility requirements as it applies to websites, documents, and forms. This position will be required to attend meetings off-campus and be required to personally facilitate all of his or her transportation requirements.
Master’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business administration, or related technical Field and knowledge of CCIE, Avaya, RCDD, and ITIL is desirable.
COMPENSATION: Salary is competitive and commensurate with background and experience.
