President's Discovery Fellows Application

Eligibility

The President's Discovery Fellow is open to the entire campus, but it is strongly recommended that students enroll and successfully complete the assigned courses.  Depending on whether you are a freshman or transfer student, there are different paths that would ultimately lead to the same culminating year.

If you are a freshman you will need to:

  •  be part of the CPP freshmen orientation
  •  enroll and complete the Learn Through Discovery First Year Experience (FYE) course
  •  enroll and complete the Projects Training Course (PTC)
  •  submit an application to become a President's Discovery Fellow as the culminating process

If you are a transfer student you will need to:

  • be part of the CPP transfer orientation
  • enroll and complete the Projects Training Course (PTC)
  • Submit an application to become a President's Discovery Fellow as the culminating process

If you are a sophomore, junior, or senior student you will need to:

  • enroll and complete the Projects Training Course (PTC)
  • Submit an application to become a President's Discovery Fellow as the culminating process

Application Procedure

There are three components to the President’s Discovery Application.  All three components are required regardless of whether you are applying as a group or sole individual. Each application will be graded on a rubric; if you would like to see the rubric ahead of time, please click here.

Application deadline: April 10, 2018.

Step 1: Project Application- This application will ask information about your project, team member(s), and the project budget*. If you are submitting as a group/team, you will submit only ONE “Project Application”.

Step 2: Team Member Individual Form- This form will ask for personal information about each team member.  We’ve separated this portion of the application from the “Project Application” to ensure the confidentiality of students in teams/groups. Please note that your application is not considered complete until ALL team members listed in the “Project Application” complete the “Team Member Individual Form”. 

Step 3: Faculty Mentor Recommendation Letter- You will need to submit ONE recommendation letter from the project faculty mentor.  Faculty mentor will need to upload a copy of said letter below by April 10, 2018.

*You will need to upload a budget for your project, including how the scholarship will be divided among your group members and your plan for the travel and supplies funding.  Each listed team member will need to indicate their agreement of the submitted budget in the “Individual Application”. For projects involving 1 or 2 students: $4,000 to share among the participants based on application budget. For projects involving 3 or more students: $7,000 to share among the participants based on application budget. Your project will receive up to $500 in supplies and $500 for travel.
