Lost and Overdue Fines

Lost and overdue fines are cumulative. Total fines from $0.15 to $4.99 will have no affect on your patron or university record and our system does not allow payments for fines under $5.00. However, once fines reach a total of $5.00 or more, a hold will be placed on your university record. All fines must be paid prior to checking out or renewing materials.

Fines must be paid in full, there are no partial payments.  Fines are payable by check, credit card at the Circulation Desk located on the second floor of the University Library, or by calling the Circulation Desk at 909-869-3075CASH NOT ACCEPTED!

HOLDS: When payments are made, HOLDS on Academic Record may not be cleared until the next business day.

You may pay your fines in person (come to the Library 2nd floor Circulation Desk), by phone 909-869-3075, or by mail (enclose a check make payable to):

ALL FINES STRICTLY ENFORCED

Fines will NOT be waived for any reasons, e.g.,:

  • Not checking on-campus E-Mail for library notices or were never received due to US Postal Service.
  • Failure to notify the library of an address change.
  • Materials were lent to someone else and she/he returned it late or failed to return it.
  • Materials returned via the US Mail and it was received late or failed to arrive.
  • Materials were returned to another library and it was not received by the due date or failed to arrive.
  • Car or bag was stolen with library material(s) inside.
  • Wallet was stolen and someone else checked out materials on your card.
  • Not checking an items due date.

UNPAID FINES: THE PENALTIES

Failure to pay outstanding library fines and fees may result in your account being sent to the State Franchise Tax Board. Failure to pay your fines will suspend borrowing privileges and will place holds on your transcripts, grades, diploma, registration, and refunds from Student Financial Services.

MATERIAL BILLING PROCEDURES

  1. As a COURTESY, the Library will send an Overdue notice to patrons by E-Mail. Patrons are responsible for the date the materials are due.

    If a notice is received, please respond by bringing back the overdue item(s) to the Library. Fines will be assessed at the time the materials are returned.
     
  2. If there is no response within 30 days, the overdue material will move into the replacement billing cycle. A LOST LOAN NOTIFICATION will be sent that includes:
     a. The replacement fee that covers the cost of the item.
     b. A $10.00, $25.00, or $100.00 (depending on the item borrowed) billing fee per item.
     
  3. If a Lost Loan item is returned, the replacement fee will no longer apply and late fines will be assessed.
     
  4. Failure to respond to a Library LOST LOAN NOTIFICATION may result in your account being sent to the State Franchise Tax Board (Cal Poly Pomona students).
