Collection Management

library bookshelves

The Cal Poly Pomona Library’s collection is managed by the Collection Management Team. Librarians with collection management assignments participate in the Team and are also known as Subject Librarians. In addition to their Collection Management responsibilities, the Subject Librarians serve as Library liaisons to the departments and colleges and are responsible for providing Library Instruction and Research Assistance.

The Collection Management Team develops policies, manages the allocated collection budget, and makes decisions on major expenditures such as databases and ejournal packages. Subject Librarians are responsible for book selection and managing the periodical and serial subscriptions in their subject areas. If you have any questions about the Library or the collection, contact the Subject Librarian for your department.

Requesting Materials

If you want to request or recommend books, journals, databases, or any other materials for the Library collection, contact the Subject Librarian for your department or use our Suggestion for Purchase form.

Generally most book purchase requests will be honored, but requests for new journals, serials, or databases have to be carefully evaluated. Books are usually ready for use within 30 days of request.

Faculty: If you are requesting materials for Reserve or need the item by a certain date, please let us know when you make the request and it will be treated as a rush order.
