ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

  • What is academic integrity, and more importantly, how can we uphold it during our tutoring sessions? Susan Ashe, Director of Student Conduct and Integrity will teach you to navigate the sometimes murky waters of academic dishonesty and provide insight into how it affects our tutoring practices.

SURVIVOR ADVOCACY

  • As tutors, we may be entrusted with sensitive information regarding sexual violence, sexual assault, dating/domestic abuse, and stalking. Join Naomi Chu of Survivor Advocacy Services to explore how you can remain sensitive, provide support, and advocate for our tutees.

SUPPORTIVE COMMUNICATION

  • Learn supportive communication skills from Dustin and practice transforming destructive tutor scenarios into supportive communication experiences.

DISAPPOINTING TUTEES

  • 15-minute drop-in sessions. 30 minutes between sessions. Not being able to help with homework problems. Do you dread explaing LRC policies to disgruntled tutees? Discuss these controversial policies with Denise and Len , and learn to deflect confrontational situations.

KEYNOTE: DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER

  • In response to the overwhelming requests by tutors, Dr. Gently Ang, Learning Disability & Mental Health Specialist at the DRC, will shed light on common learning disabilities and share strategies to ensure we can provide access and equal opportunity for all tutees.

  • Lunch will only be provided for those who have preregistered here by noon, September 12th.

DELIVERING ENGAGING WORKSHOPS

  • Learn to create and present interactive workshops that will hold attention from Denise and Laura. As a center, we are striving to move away from a stand and deliver approach to something more collaborative and active that will reach a wider variety of learning styles.

DIGITAL COMMUNICATION: GRAPHIC DESIGN 101

  • Creating LRC materials (flyers, FAQs, presentations, etc.) that are informative and beautiful, while strengthening our brand, can be a challenge. Edward will walk you through the do's and don't of design, provide hands-on opportunities, and teach you everything there is to know about CRAP (Contrast, Repetition, Alignment, and Proximity).

DEMYSTIFYING CRLA LEVEL 2

  • What is CRLA Level 2 and why should you work toward it? Dustin will walk you through the requirements and provide practical applications for your role in the LRC and beyond graduation.

  • Even the best looking flyers and presentations can be ruined by poor word and font choice. Learn the importance of visual rhetoric and concision with Edward in this hands-on session.
