I teach my students that the universe has no center, but of course my wife, Kerean, and our daughter, Maia Helena, are the center of mine.
Kerean and I are passionate about exploring the world. One of our favorite vehicles for exploration is photography. Over the past few years, we have built up an eclectic collection of images and developed a keen interest in portraits. We have even started a photography service and fine art print business, Irie Imageworks. We selectively show and sell our work at art fairs and take on other photography projects. Irie Imageworks is also on facebook.
I spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the East African nation of Tanzania, teaching Physics and Mathematics at Moshi Technical Secondary School, located at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro in northern Tanzania. I developed the Tanzania Pages in 2003, primarily to share stories and photos of my time living and teaching there. Among my most memorable Tanzania experiences: leading student groups to the summits of Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Meru. I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro a second time as a private climber on a different route.
