New Employee Welcome

Your First Day

Welcome to Cal Poly Pomona!  Here you will find information to help you as you get started in your new role.

  • Attend New Hire Orientation

New Hire Orientation is conducted in Human Resource Services, CLA Building 98, Room B1-20, at the start of the work day.  This orientation takes approximately three hours and includes:
    • Review and completion of your new hire documents.
    • Picture taken by campus photographer.
    • We take you to Cashier Services where you can purchase your parking decal.
    • Environmental Health & Safety reviews campus emergency procedures and required new hire safety training.
    • We review general information for new employees, incuding Direct Deposit information, paydays, holiday observances, our summer 4/10 schedule, and other important information to help you acclimate to the campus.

  • Report to Your New Department

    • Meet your new coworkers, tour your general work area, and get acclimated to your new worksite.
    • Clarify how to request and record absences (vacation, personal holiday, sick leave, etc.).
    • Set up your personal workspace, depending on the type of work to be performed.
    • If you haven't already, familiarize yourself with Cal Poly Pomona and The California State University.
    • Review your job description, outline of duties, and expectations.

  • Employee Resource Center

Many of your questions, as a new employee, can be answered through the resources and information in the Employee Resource Center web pages.  You'll find a Staff Resources webpage for staff/management employees.  If you are joining our management team, there is also a Manager's Resources page with links to information and resources geared to assist you in your role as a Cal Poly Pomona manager.  If you can't find the answer you need, email HRS Customer Service Center (hrscsc@cpp.edu) and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

  • Review Safety at CPP Information

The University is proactive in making sure employees and students are safe on campus and are aware of all of the resources available to keep you safe. The university also has well-defined Emergency Procedures and a communications system (Safety Alert System) for quickly distributing information on emergencies and disasters.  View our Campus Safety & Emergency Information webpage for more detailed information.   Also, ask about department-specific safety and emergency information, including the location you are to evacuate to in the event of a fire alarm; where your nearest emergency exits are located; fire alarm pull and fire extinguisher locations.
