Searching for Warm Excess Stars, the First Step to Meet the Extra-Terrestrial

Our quest to search for life in universe starts from identifying the stars that might harbor the planetary systems. The presence of the planetary system around the stars outside our solar system can be indirectly probed by detecting the excess emission emitted by dust (i.e., the building blocks of those planets) above the stellar photosphere in the infrared wavelength. Especially the presence of mid-infrared excess (or so-called "warm excess") emission is of particular importance as it indicates the presence of dust in the terrestrial planet zone. In this talk, I will discuss the techniques and the tools that our team has developed in the past to identify the stars with excess emission in the infrared. I will also share the past result of our successful search for the infrared excess stars as well as our current/future research involving Herschel and Wise Infrared space telescopes.
