Michael Folonis, lecturer, Architecture, was featured in the February 2002 issue of Dwell magazine. The article focused on one of Folonis's projects, the renovation of the historic Avenel Apartment complex that was built for union musicians in 1948. The complex is located in Silver Lake Hills, a residential community northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Nancy Levandowski, director, Foundation Dining Services, was the featured speaker at the National Association of College & University Food Services' National Education Program in April in Ontario, Canada. Levandowski's presentation was "Improving Your Bottom Line."

Patrick Merrill, gallery curator, College of Environmental Design, was mentioned in the April 2002 issue of ArtScene as the curator of two exhibits held in the W. Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery. The exhibits were "Representations" and "Ephemeral."

Norberto Nardi, professor, Architecture, was invited by the School of Architects of Ningbo University, China, to lecture to faculty and students. The lecture, "Culture and the Environment," took place in May in China.

Doreen Nelson, professor, Education, developed a television series that is available for viewing as streaming video at The program, "Education That Works," features area educators such as Ronald Hockwalt, superintendent of the Walnut Valley Unified School District, and Leslie Stoltz, a teacher from his district.

Jeffrey Olson, Phil Pregill and Joan Woodward, professors, Architecture, and graduate students Adam Kringel, Miki Yanai Hernandez and Rochelle Tortorete enrolled in a 606 studeio course and developed a landscape framework plan for the Arroyo Seco Parkway Corridor. The Historical American Engineering Record and the California Department of Transportation documented the planning and engineering of the project, which was awarded a 2002 Preservation Award from the Los Angeles Conservancy. The award was presented at the Millennium Biltmore in May in Los Angeles.
