Application Process


Recruiting self-motivated, creative business, engineering and science students who are interested in the entrepreneurial process. Be part of an interdisciplinary team to create a novel product, learn how to develop a viable business plan, and actually take the product to market!


Course Description

This course is course is a joint project between the College of Business Administration (CBA) and the College of Engineering (COE). Business, engineering and science students will take a new product from development to commercialization. In this course, you will work in cross-functional teams to develop business, marketing and financial plans, source for materials, produce and market the product, and meet specific financial and strategic objectives. You will be called upon to use you functional expertise to coordinate with students from other disciplines to ensure the successful launch of a new product. The course will satisfy the senior project requirement for most students (please talk to Drs. Dong and Sawyerr for more specifics. Six to eight units over three quarters.

Why Take The Course?

So that you can gain experience in technology innovation and starting a business! The hallmark of a Cal Poly education is its emphasis on "learn by doing." This course will give you the opportunity to take what you have learned in your curriculum to design, build and take a new product to market. This course has gained the attention of NASA and students in the class will have an opportunity to work with NASA inventors.

Course Prerequisites

You must be an upper division business, engineering, or science student with a minimum GPA of 2.5.


Drs. Winny Dong (COE) and Olukemi Sawyerr Eke (CBA) will coach the cross-functional teams.
