Upward Bound / Upward Bound Math Science Eligibility

To be eligible for UB / UBMS the student must:

  • be a 9th or 10th grade student enrolled at one of the following high schools:
-      Chaffey High School (UB Classic only)
-      Chino High School (UB Classic only)
-      Don Lugo High School (UB Classic only)
-      Fremont Academy of Engineering and Design (UB/UBMS)
-      Ganesha High School (UB/UBMS)
-      Garey High School (UB/UBMS)
-      Montclair High School (UB/UBMS)
-      Ontario High School (UB/UBMS)
-      Pomona High School (UB/UBMS)
-      Village Academy High School (UB/UBMS)
In addition, the student must qualify under at least ONE of the following:

**Speak with a staff member first. DO NOT disqualify yourself!!!

  • meet the family income guidelines established by the federal government
    • BASED ON TAXABLE INCOME ONLY
      • 1040, line15
  • student is a potential first-generation college student

-      neither parent has a four-year college degree from the U.S.

  • student is at high risk for academic failure
-      GPA is at 2.5 or below OR
-      student did not achieve at the proficient level in the ELA OR Math state standards tests (CAASPP) OR
-      student has not completed pre-algebra/algebra by the beginning of 10th grade

The student must also:

  • complete the application package (including the requested forms) and an interview with Upward Bound staff
  • be committed to attending post-secondary education
  • demonstrate a willingness and desire to actively participate in all program activities
