Regulations regarding Leaves and Withdrawals

Stop-out

Stop-out Update:

A student may be absent from the university ("stop-out") without filing for a leave of absence if the leave does not exceed the absences permitted in the table below. Beginning Summer 2017, the Summer Quarter will no longer be included in the count of permissible stop-out terms.

In the event that a student expects that their leave will extend beyond the stop-out quarters permitted, the student can petition for a Leave of Absence. Students must be in good academic standing to be approved for a Leave of Absence. A request for leave of absence must be filed prior to the period of absence. Retroactive leave requests will not be approved.

**Important Notes:

  • This policy cannot be applied retroactively to previous summers, unless by exceptions granted by the Associate Vice President for Student Success.
  • Terminology and timelines subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar.
  • Policies listed in the “SUMMER Quarter Notable Academic Policies” remain in effect
