Notable Academic Policies

Mathematics and Statistics Department Prerequisites

Summer shall not be considered in the time frame for a course to satisfy the prerequisites for mathematics and statistics classes.

Leave of Absence

Leave of Absences may be granted for a maximum of eight consecutive terms. If the last term of the leave is the spring quarter and the student is expected to return in the summer, students may appeal for an additional term of leave. (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar)

Continued Attendance

An absence exceeding two consecutive terms is normally considered an interruption in attendance.  Summer does not count toward a student’s two terms of stop-out.  For more information, refer to the Registrar's Office regarding Academic Regulations. (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar)

President’s Honors List

Students must be named to the Dean’s List in the fall, winter, and spring terms of the same academic year to qualify for the President’s List (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar).

Completion of Remediation (EO 665)

Students must demonstrate proficiency by the end of four terms. The Self-Support Summer shall be considered to be one of those terms.  Students may petition for additional time to satisfy remediation requirements (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar).

Incompletes

Incompletes must be completed within four terms. The Self-Support Summer shall be considered to be one of those quarters.  Students may petition for additional time with a General Academic Petition (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar).

Summer Walk

Undergraduate students may apply for graduation/and or participate in June commencement ceremonies if they have no more than eight units remaining to fulfill the graduation requirements, and are in good academic standing (2.00 GPA in CPP and cumulative coursework).  The eight units may be completed in the summer, fall or winter terms (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar).

Retroactive Withdrawal

Students who wish to apply for retroactive withdrawal must do so within one calendar year of the last day of the term in which they unofficially withdrew from the University.

Grade Appeals

Grade appeals must be filed by the end of the term following the term in which the grade was assigned.  If the grade was assigned in the spring quarter, the appeal must be filed by the end of the following fall quarter (timeline subject to change when the University converts to a semester calendar).
