Andrew Barnhart

Andrew Barnhart using microscopeAndrew Barnhart, a transfer student from Pasadena City College, is pursuing his Bachelor's degree in Geology with great zeal. Andrew was recently awarded our Henderson-Valles scholarship in June, 2012 to recognize his academic abilities and efforts to conduct research. An ongoing project involves investigations of paleo beach deposits and river gravels along the active Pacific margin of Costa Rica READ MORE. The photograph at the left shows Andrew studying one of his samples with the Geology Department's petrographic microspcopes. The photo below left shows Andrew and part of the Spring 2011 Costa Rica team collecting a sample of exhumed basaltic sea floor along the Costa Rica shoreline. The picture below left shows him collecting a water chemistry sample on the summer 2012 trip.

Barnhart in Costa Rica getting water samplesIn addition to his academic studies at Cal Poly Pomona and assistance with logistics on Geology Department field trips, Andrew has kept busy teaching Science part time at a local high school. This summer (2012) he started a full-time internship working with Beacon Energy Services, Inc., based out of Long Beach, California. Beacon provides consulting services to a variety of petroleum companies in the western United States.
