Graduate Assessment Procedures

Program Learning Outcomes

The Program Learning Outcomes of the Master's degree in Mathematics and Statistics are:

Goal 1:  Graduates will be prepared to pursue emphasis-related careers, such as post-secondary teaching, industry, public agencies, or pursue an advanced degree.

Goal 2:  Graduates will show an advanced technical competency in the discipline of pure mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, or mathematics education.

Goal 3:  Graduates will communicate and work effectively and with integrity in individual and group settings.

Goal 4:  Graduates will be prepared to pursue emphasis-related careers, such as post-secondary teaching, industry, public agencies, or pursue an advanced degree.

Goal 5:  Graduates will communicate and work effectively and with integrity in individual and group settings.

Graduate Program Student Learning Outcomes

Goal 1:  Students will demonstrate an understanding of the common body of knowledge in mathematics by reading, analyzing, and writing mathematical proofs.

Goal 2:  Students will demonstrate the ability to apply analytical and theoretical skills to model and solve problems in their emphasis.

Goal 3:  Students will be able to perform high-level reasoning.

Goal 4:  Students will be able to critically evaluate work in their discipline.

Goal 5:  Students will be able to effectively communicate technical ideas by using written and oral skills.

These SLOs are assessed on a 5-year cycle in courses spanning the different emphases:  MAT 5110 (Core), MAT 5170 (Pure mathematics), MAT 5080 (Applied mathematics), MAE 5600 (Mathematics Education), and STA 5320 (Statistics).
