Eligibility Requirements

Students interested in accessing support services through Renaissance Scholars at Cal Poly Pomona must meet all the following criteria:

  • Must be a current or former foster youth. 

Formally placed in the care of someone other than your biological parents. This includes foster homes, group homes, legal guardianship, kinship care, or adoption out of foster care.

  • Must provide a verification document of foster care status.

If you need support securing your Ward of Court document, contact the California Foster Care Ombudsperson’s Office at 1-877-846-1602 as soon as possible. Or complete the following online verification request form

  • Must be a California resident or an AB 540/2000 nonresident tuition exemption student.

Program Options

Renaissance Scholars offers a full program and drop-in option. 

Renaissance Scholars (RS) Program: The full program offers all program benefits listed and has specific student requirements and expectations. 

RS Fostering Success Drop-in Services (FSS):
The RS FSS drop-in services provides limited access to most program benefits listed.

Undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in either the RS full program or the RS Fostering Success Drop-in Services with limited access to services.

Graduate students attending Cal Poly Pomona are only eligible for the RS Fostering Success Drop-in Services.

Application Steps

Must apply & qualify for admission to Cal Poly Pomona as a freshman OR transfer student. To apply please head over to www2.calstate.edu/apply

Strongly Recommended to apply for EOP (Educational Opportunity Program). This application is found with in Cal State Apply.

Must Apply to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA) by the Priority Deadline of April 2nd, 2024

Must complete the online application for Renaissance Scholars (RS) & submit your foster care status verification document.

Must sign-up and complete an RS Intake Meeting with the Renaissance Scholars program.
